We welcome you to our site, LGBT Faith Leaders of African Descent. We will be using this site to inform, educate, inspire and empower LGBT people of the Black community. Our desire, as LGBT people of faith, is to promote our visibility, educate about who we are, our needs, successes and circumstances. Our ultimate goal is to create an environment that is necessary for a healthy and productive community for us and our families.

LGBT Faith Leaders of African Descent is a 501(c)3 organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), and same gender loving people of African Descent and their allies formed to serve as ambassadors and educators to oppose discrimination, exclusion or intimidation of LGBT persons in our society and particularly in our church communities.

Who We Are
We are a group composed of clergy, divinity students, and faith leaders who represent diverse interdenominational religious institutions.  As people of faith, we believe in the spiritual values of love, inclusiveness, and respect for all people.

How we Operate
We are a licensed 501C3 functioning with voting members and a board of officers. According to our bylaws all members have the right to vote. We operate with standing committees , staffed by members and volunteers with one member acting as the coordinator. Any person can ask to volunteer on a standing committee planning or other organizational activities.It is through these working committees that people come to know us and we know them. Membership applications as voted on by all members.

Our standing committees develop plans for activities for a calendar year. The suggested plans from the
committees are finalized by a vote from the entire body of members.

What We Propose To Do

  • provide accurate information and encourage frank dialogue to promote the spiritual values of love and inclusiveness;
  • work with clergy, lay leaders and all members of faith communities, especially those who are serving African Americans and others of African descent;
  • work with family members, professionals, and agencies involved with LGBT adults, youth, and seniors;
  • organize, conduct and lead community meetings, sermons, and informational workshops;
  • make videos and use the print media to advance personal fulfillment, committed relationships, and healthy families for all of God’s children.

We welcome working relationships with other groups and organizations that share similar missions. These relationships can take a variety of forms: sponorship of events, posting your events, presenting your organization or activity to the public.
